CCTV Camera with Zoom Lens

A CCTV camera with a zoom lens is a CCTV camera whose lens can change its field of view, narrowing to a distant point or widening to an overview. This guide explains when that ability helps, and what to confirm before ordering, for buyers considering a zoom lens for a CCTV camera.
This guide discusses a changing view for CCTV cameras as a buyer requirement. Availability from Hangzhou Ai Ke Electronics Co., Ltd. is not established. Ask whether a suitable lens is available before ordering. The CCTV zoom application page covers the same application. It states no model or specification, and it does not promise any particular zoom behaviour, which must be confirmed for the exact lens concerned.
When zoom helps a CCTV camera
Zoom helps where one CCTV camera must do two jobs: watch an area in general, and examine points within it. A camera over a yard, a hall, a car park or a boundary may need an overview most of the time and a close look at a gate, a doorway or a vehicle some of the time. A zoom lens lets the same camera do both, where a fixed lens would force a choice.
Zoom also helps where the right view is not known until the camera is up. The installer can fit the camera, look at the picture, and set the view to suit the scene, rather than guessing the view in advance and refitting the lens if the guess is wrong.
When zoom does not help
Zoom does not help where the camera must watch two points at once, since one lens can only show one view at a time. Two fixed views, or two cameras, serve that job better than one zoom camera that must be pointed first at one point and then at the other, missing one while it watches the other.
Zoom also does not help where the view never changes and is known in advance. In that case a fixed lens is simpler, and the buyer should not pay for an ability the camera will never use. The varifocal versus fixed guide explains that trade-off in more detail.
What to confirm before ordering
Confirm how the zoom is operated for the exact lens concerned, whether by hand, by motor or through the camera system, and confirm that the operating method suits the buyer's CCTV camera and job. Confirm the model, specifications, minimum order quantity, lead time and price for the quantity required, and confirm compatibility.
Documents should be confirmed at the same time. Certificates available upon request. No certificate detail is stated on this site.
Frequently asked questions
Does a zoom lens watch more than a fixed lens?
It watches a wider range of views, but only one view at a time. It cannot watch two points at once.
Is zoom operated by hand or by motor?
That depends on the exact lens. Confirm the operating method for the lens offered, and whether it works with your camera system.
Should every CCTV camera have a zoom lens?
No. Use zoom where the view must change or is uncertain. Fixed views suit fixed jobs.
