Security Camera Lenses

Security cameras are cameras installed to protect a premises, a property or a site: to watch entrances, deter unwanted entry, record what happens, and give a picture that can be reviewed afterwards. This page covers lenses for security cameras, as an application area. Availability of a suitable lens from Hangzhou Ai Ke Electronics Co., Ltd. is not established for any particular requirement; ask whether a suitable lens is available before ordering

A security camera lens is chosen for the place it must watch and the question the picture must answer. A camera over a door answers a different question from a camera over a yard, and a camera that must give a recognisable view of a person answers a different question from a camera that only needs to show that someone is present. The inquiry should therefore describe the place and the question, not just the camera.

What security camera use requires

Security installations usually mix several views: a wide view of an area, a view of an entrance or a passage, and sometimes a view of a particular point such as a gate, a till or a doorway. Each view may suit a different lens, and a single installation may need more than one lens type across its cameras.

The wide-angle security page on this site covers the wide-view end of this job, and the varifocal security camera page covers cameras whose view must be set on site. Both are narrower than this page, which is the general application entry point for security camera lenses.

Planning a security camera view

Planning starts with the scene: where the camera will sit, what must be visible, what must stay out of the picture, and how the light changes through the day. A view that works in daylight may fail at night, and a view that covers a yard in summer may be partly blocked when trees are in leaf, so the inquiry should mention the real conditions rather than an ideal scene.

The lens is only part of the picture. The camera, the mounting position, the recording setup and the light all shape the result, and a buyer who describes only the lens may miss the factor that actually decides whether the view works. A good inquiry describes the whole installation in brief.

What to confirm before ordering

Confirm the lens category and, where one is offered, the model that fits the buyer's security camera and the scene it must cover. Confirm the specifications, minimum order quantity, lead time and price for the quantity required, and confirm compatibility with the camera and mounting arrangement.

Documents should be confirmed at the same time. Certificates available upon request. No certificate detail is stated on this site.

Frequently asked questions

Is a security camera lens different from a CCTV camera lens?

The two overlap heavily. Security camera lenses are CCTV camera lenses described by their protective job; this page covers that job, while the CCTV camera lens page covers the category in general.

Do I need a different lens for each camera?

Possibly. Different positions answer different questions, and one installation often needs more than one lens type. Describe each position in the inquiry.

What should my inquiry include?

The camera, each mounting position, the scene each camera must cover, the light conditions, and the result each picture must give.
